Thoughts for May, 2005

The Gulf Islands are called such because back in the day someone thought they were in a gulf. It's confusing because they most definitely are smack in the middle of Georgia straight. I could see how sailing around with a GPS system could be confusing though.
This weekend was a truly enjoyable nature experience. Lots of hiking, Disc Golf, beaches, friends, drugs, alchohol and most of all - Photos!
This was my first weekend experimenting with the D70. It truly is a remarkable piece of machinery and I can't wait to learn more about it.

This week I received a large box full of thousands of dollars in photography gear. The items of most interest (and value) were the Nikon D70 Body, 2GB Compact Flash card, Nikkor 20-80mm f/3.3-5.6 G lens and Nikkor 70-300mf/4-5.6 G lens. Other accessories include a closeup/wideangle attachment, extra litium-ion battery, tripod, hard case, soft case and other less significant items.
I'm fuckin' stoked. Now, I will no longer be hesitant referring to myself as a photographer. : )

I had planned going camping this weekend but the weather didn't shed a favorable light on itself yesterday afternoon so I changed my plans to be less adventurous. I think it would have been a good trip though, I haven't seen a drop today.
This weekend I had a shoot to do at my friend's yoga studio, 'Bend Over Backwards, Yoga in the Iyengar Tradition'. The photos are for the website that I built for her a couple years ago - www.iyengaryogananaimo.com. I'm planning to design a new look for the site in the next while.

So, this weekend, in addition to spending lots of time with the woman of my dreams I got a lot of stuff done. Painted the shed, played Disc Golf, did a photo shoot, etc. It was great and the best part - no hangovers.
The photo shoot today was for the VI Raiders, a new junior football club in town. You can check out their website here. (I built it)

I've been playing a lot of Disc Golf lately. It seems to be infecting everyone I know with no sign of an antidote. The infection really has only pleasant symptoms though and gives all involved a chance to be outdoors in this fantastic weather we've been having.
The fanaticism has run so deep that two friends and I are developing a website with information about courses, technique, etc. as well as a store to buy discs, disc bags and other related paraphenalia. It's called DiscGolfSource.com and will be a few months in the making. Might be a good revenue generator though, apparently more discs were sold in the last year than footballs, soccerballs and basketballs combined.
